SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of July this year.
China topped the list, although its output registered 6.4% decline in output over the previous year. The country’s crude steel output totalled 81.4 Mt during the month. The cumulative output during the first seven months of the current year totalled 609.3 Mt, significantly down by 6.4% over the same period in 2021.

India’s estimated output, at 10.1 Mt, recorded a surge by 3.2% over July 2021. The country produced 73.3 Mt of steel during Jan-July ’22, significantly higher by 8.0% over the previous year. Incidentally, India was one among the two countries to report year-on-year surge in output, the other being Iran. The Japanese output dipped 8.5% during the month to total 7.3 Mt, while its output was down by 4.9% over Jan-July ’21 to total 53.3 Mt until July this year.
The U.S. produced 7.0 Mt, down by 6.4%. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.5 Mt, down by 13.2% year-on-year. The output by other countries in the top ten list in Mt is as follows: South Korea (6.1), Germany (3.0), Turkey (2.7), Brazil (2.8) and Iran (2.0). Turkey recorded largest year-on-year dip in steel output during the month, among the top ten producing countries, falling significantly by 20.7%.
