SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading Peruvian steelmaker Aceros Arequipa earned one of the highest scores in the steel industry, in the 2022 Standard & Poor’s (S&P) Environmental Social and Corporate Governance Performance Assessment. The company was ranked alongside leading global firms such as Korean Hyundai Steel and Australian Fortescue Metals.

The assessment process comprises rigorous evaluation of the environmental, social and corporate governance performance of companies around the world. The award recognizes companies that deliver exemplary performance on the above metrics every year. The topmost ranking makes Aceros Arequipa eligible to enter the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) – MILA, for the third straight year in a row.

A total of more than 5,300 companies across the globe, including 145 companies belonging to steel industry were assessed this year. Aceros Arequipa managed to secure 75 points in the assessment.

Tulio Silgado, General Manager, Aceros Arequipa noted that the gap-closing study undertaken every year after the results has helped the company in analysing the gaps and implementing short, medium and long term action plans to address loopholes, if any, in order to ensure good practices to the benefit of the community and environment.
