Meta Platforms Inc. META has decided to shut down the Cameo-like Super app without giving any apparent reason.
What Happened: Meta’s Super app will no longer be available from Feb 23, said the Super website. So, Super app users have limited time to download recorded media before the official decommissioning of the website.

Meta said that while creators and fans raised funds for “good causes,” the time has come to say “goodbye” to the app. Super users now have about two months to download their Cameo-style videos. At the same time, no new events can be hosted.
“No new Super events will be enabled during the shutdown period. If you had already scheduled an event during this window, we recommend rescheduling on another platform,” the Super website stated.
The Super app was focused on streamers and online influencers. It hosted meet-and-greets allowing users to pay for one-on-one chats to enhance their experience. Simply put, it was an experiment by Meta to provide more monetization opportunities for creators.
Why It’s Important: While Meta didn’t clarify the reason behind shutting the Super app, it may be a part of the company’s long-term plan to focus primarily on the metaverse.
In November, Meta laid off more than 11,000 employees, about 13% of its total workforce.
Meta is yet to be able to replicate Facebook’s Web 2 success considering several issues, technical and cultural, surrounding Mark Zuckerberg’s metaverse. The same is causing a quarterly loss for the tech giant.
