Corporate FX and hedging provider Monex Europe has appointed John Gallagher as group chief technology officer (CTO) and executive director.

Monex Europe makes three new leadership hires

Gallagher is one of three new leadership hires at the firm, with David Whitcroft also joining as group director of risk and treasury and Jacques de Villiers as director of digital strategy, subject to regulatory approval.

All three of the new hires will report to Nick Edgeley, CEO of Monex Europe.

Gallagher brings over 25 years of experience managing global technology teams and delivering IT strategies for large financial and payment organisations.

He joins from Mastercard, where he was responsible for the management and governance of Mastercard’s global consumer applications products and platforms and for the transformation of the company’s cloud-native platforms and agile development capabilities. Prior to this, Gallagher was CTO at VeriFone Systems and chief information officer and IT director at Barclays Bank.

In his new role, Gallagher will be responsible for developing new technology and API capabilities and working with de Villiers to build new product offerings.

David Whitcroft joins Monex from WorldRemit, where he developed risk and treasury functions as group treasurer. In his 27-year career, he has worked at Doha Bank, Al Hilal Bank, Barclays, CIBC and National Australia Bank.

Jacques de Villiers has more than 15 years of experience in foreign exchange. He previously served as business development director at Global Reach Group, devising revenue growth strategies and identifying and winning strategic partnerships.

In the newly created role of director of digital strategy, de Villiers will be responsible for developing Monex’s FX solutions and connectivity, expanding the firm’s range of products and helping the business scale.

Headquartered in London, Monex Europe is part of the wider Monex Group, and provides FX services to corporate and institutional clients.
