Novelis will make use of Sortera’s advanced sorting technologies, including data analytics and advanced sensors, to effectively recycle automotive post-production and post-consumer scrap. The technology will help Novelis to separate the mixed scrap into individual alloys and recycle them back into the same product, much more effectively. The partnership will accelerate Novelis’ journey towards attaining its sustainability goal of 30% carbon footprint reduction by 2026 and reaching carbon neutral by 2050 or before.

Derek Prichett, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development at Novelis said that the new partnership will allow Novelis to continue to increase the amount of recycled content in its automotive alloys and subsequently reduce its carbon footprint. It also aligns with the company’s goal of becoming a fully circular business, he noted.

Michael Siemer, CEO, Sortera Alloys noted that the company is thrilled to work with Novelis. The partnership with existing investors like Chrysalix and Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and now with Novelis will help drive a more sustainable industry, he added.
