The new standard focuses more deeply than ever before on reducing GHG emissions. The entire steel value chain including leading steelmakers such as ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel, US Steel, thyssenkrupp, POSCO, BlueScope, and voestalpine along with leading environmental NGOs the Climate Group, Ceres, the Clean Air Task Force, We Mean Business, and Mighty Earth had supported the efforts to develop the new standard.

The breakthrough ResponsibleSteel International Standard V2.0 will provide steel industry leaders with an opportunity to demonstrate how they are driving down emissions, alongside tackling other key issues including the impact of mining, water use, labour rights, air pollution, and diversity.

Gerry Tidd, Chairman of the Board of Directors commented that the new workable standard will help certify steel products which meet the highest possible sustainability metrics. The standard aims to set a new high watermark for steelmakers in addressing various issued faced by the steel industry, he added.
