SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The most recent statistics released by the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) suggests marginal jump in scrap exports during September this year.

The country exported around 1.45 million tons of scrap during the month, which is higher by 3.8% from the prior month and by 8% from the same month a year before. The largest export destination was Mexico, which imported around 298,000 tonnes of scrap from the U.S. The imports by the country were up significantly by over 97% year-on-year. The other key destinations were India and Turkey, whose imports from the U.S. totalled around 233,000 tonnes and 215,000 tonnes respectively. Also, Malaysia imported approximately 151,000 tonnes of scrap from the U.S.

Meantime, the value of exports during the month stood at $530 million, falling considerably by 13.3% over the year.

The Turkish Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD) data for September this year indicates that the country’s scrap imports fell by almost 14% from the prior month to total nearly 1.39 million tonnes. Over the previous year, the imports were down by 13.3%. The country’s cumulative imports from January to September this year totalled 16.88 million tons. The largest scrap supplier to Turkey during the initial nine-month period of the year was the EU region, with supplies of around 8.6 million tons.
